 1. Kargil War: The Kargil War of 1999 was fought between India and Pakistan. Indian Army soldiers bravely fought against infiltrators from Pakistan and eventually managed to regain control of the territory.

4. Battle of Longewala: During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, a small Indian Army post in Longewala, Rajasthan was attacked by a large number of Pakistani troops. The Indian soldiers, outnumbered and outgunned, fought bravely and managed to repel the attack.

5. Operation Vijay: In 1961, the Indian Army successfully liberated Goa from Portuguese control in a military operation known as Operation Vijay.

6. The Battle of Saragarhi: In 1897, 21 Sikh soldiers fought against 10,000 Afghan tribesmen in the Battle of Saragarhi. Despite being vastly outnumbered, the soldiers fought valiantly and managed to hold their ground until reinforcements arrived.

7. Indo-China War: In 1962, the Indian Army fought against the Chinese army in a border conflict. Although India suffered a defeat, the bravery and determination of Indian soldiers earned them the respect of the world.

8. Uri Attack: In 2016, terrorists attacked an Indian Army base in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 19 soldiers. The incident led to a surge of nationalistic sentiments and the Indian Army responded with surgical strikes across the border.

9. Operation Meghdoot: In 1984, the Indian Army captured the Siachen Glacier in Operation Meghdoot. The operation involved Indian soldiers climbing up to the top of the glacier and establishing posts to thwart Pakistani attempts to capture the territory.

10. 1965 Indo-Pak War: In 1965, the Indian Army fought against the Pakistani army in a war that lasted for 17 days. Despite facing tough opposition, Indian soldiers managed to protect the country's borders and prevent any major territorial losses.

Cyclone Titli: 150 Andhra Pradesh fishermen rescued in Odisha

One hundred and fifty fishermen from Andhra Pradesh stranded at sea when ‘Titli’ struck were rescued in a joint operation by the Odisha Police, Ganjam administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and Coast Guard.
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Ashis Singh, the fishermen were in 35 trawlers. They had left the Andhra coast on September 29. “On Wednesday, October 10, they were sailing near Gopalpur. Despite warnings, they did not come ashore,” he said.

When the cyclone intensified, their friends and relatives requested the local police at Ganjam coast for help. Noting the gravity of the situation, Ganjam administration and police coordinated an operation with the support of the Coast Guard, NDRF and ODRAF. The operation started around midnight on Wednesday and continued till Thursday morning, even as the cyclone landfall was in progress near Palasa in adjoining Andhra Pradesh. Three trawlers with 27 fishermen that had been washed into the shallow waters were first towed to the coast. They were provided medical help and sheltered at the Arjyapalli marine police station. They will be sent back to their homes in a day or two, said officials.

The remaining fishermen in trawlers in deep sea were provided necessary protection by the Coast Guard rescue team till the cyclone subsided.

India eyeing T-14 Armata as Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat visits Russia

Indian Army is now planning to procure Russia's multi-purpose future ready combat vehicles (FRCV) T-14 Armata to replace its ageing T-72 main battle tanks (MBTs).

According to Sputniknews.com, the Indian Army hopes to buy 1,770 multi-purpose T-14 Armata FRCVs from Russia which is likely to cost USD 4.5 billion.

With the Army Chief General Bipin Rawat arriving in Russia for a six-day visit to the country on Monday, the spotlight is back on the deal to purchase T-14 Armata FRCVs.

The deal to buy T-14 Armata FRCVs, if negotiated properly and finalised in the later stages, is likely to further cement the strategic bilateral partnership between the two countries.

Shedding more light on Army Chief's 6-day visit, Col Aman Anand, PRO Indian Army, said, ''General Bipin Rawat is visiting Russia from October 1-6 an official bilateral visit. During the visit, the Chief of the Army Staff-led delegation is scheduled to meet Senior Military hierarchy of Russian Armed Forces and visit Key Military formations and establishments.''

''General Bipin Rawat shall be visiting Mikhailovskaya Artillery Academy, Headquarters of Western Military District at St Petersburg and General Staff Academy and Headquarters of a Motorised Rifle Division at Moscow,'' the statement said.

Interestingly, the Gen Rawat's visit also coincides with a bilateral annual summit being organised on October 5 in New Delhi during which defence deals worth over USD 10 billion are likely to be signed.

The T-14 Armata FRCVs are likely to figure in the discussions as the Indian military delegation led by General Rawat meets the top brass of the Russian Armed Forces and key military formations and establishments. 

The procurement process for FRCVs was initiated by the Indian Army in November 2017 as part of a plan to induct hundreds of armoured vehicles similar to the Russian T-14 Armata, Ukrainian Oplot, and South Korean K2 Black Panther main battle tanks.

According to the proposed procurement plan, the FRCVs will be manufactured in India by a private company in collaboration with the overseas original equipment manufacturer.

General Rawat is also likely to discuss the maintenance and life-cycle support of Russian-made military platforms in India. 

The Indian Army has expressed hope that Gen Rawat's Russia visit will take forward the military to military cooperation to the next level.

"The visit is yet another milestone in giving impetus to the strategic partnership between India and Russia and taking forward the military to military cooperation to the next level,"!
